Virginia Beach, Virginia Newborn Photographer | How I Chose to Pursue Newborn Photography

Updated: Jun 4, 2022

Who doesn't love babies?! In all serious-ness, I've always had a love for babies and have worked with them for over half of my life! I've been called the "baby whisperer" for as long as I can remember!

I started babysitting when I was 12 years old. My neighbor had a baby and I watched him almost everyday after school for many years! When I graduated high school, I moved up to Williamsburg, VA where I got a job as an assistant teacher at The Goddard School. I wasnt the assistant for long though! I quickly got promoted to the Lead Teacher for the Infant room, where I had babies 6 weeks to a year old in there. During my time at The Goddard School, I was in college studying infant development including physical, psychological, developmentally, etc. I was responsible for creating lesson plans (yes, lessons plans for 6 week olds) where I focused on activities to aid in the development of these precious babes! My assistants and I cared for 12 infants at one time, and I loved every second of it!

As much as I loved my position at The Goddard School, I wanted a more one-on-one relationship and focus! So I found my first nannying job watching a sweet 3 month old baby girl! I didn't get to work with her for long though because I ended up moving back to Virginia Beach.

Once I was back in Virginia Beach, I was on the hunt for another infant nanny job and ended up meeting one of the best families I've ever known (who are seriously family to me now). They had twin girls, only 7 weeks old and I started working with them. I was their nanny until they were 4 years old. The best job ever (besides my job now!).

While I was working with the twins, I also found a part time job with a company who works in the hospital taking newborn photos. This is where my love for newborn photography started! I worked with this company for 3 years before Covid-19 came and forced us to be furloughed. I decided to take it as a blessing and jumped fully into my own business. I quit school, because I was in nursing school at this point and decided I really didnt want to be a nurse after working in the hopsital and never looked back!

I was so excited and so nervous because the newborn photos I took in the hospital were so basic and I knew I wanted to achieve more complex, creative newborn posing/photos on my own. I began paying for education to improve my skills. I took classes on newborn posing safety, super important! I started my prop collecting and eventually found my first studio space in August 2020! The rest is history!

I have never loved a job as much as I love this one. Every baby that comes to me is a true blessing and I love being able to capture these memories for their family. I'm excited to see what the future has to offer me in this field!

With over 15 years of newborn and infant experience, rest assured, your baby is safe and taken care of in my hands! Reach out about booking your newborn session here.
