Maternity sessions are some of the most meaningful portraits you’ll ever take - a celebration of the beautiful season before everything changes. But one of the most common questions I’m asked is: “When should I book my maternity photos?”

Here’s everything you need to know to plan your session at the perfect time:
The Ideal Timeframe
The sweet spot for maternity photos is typically between 28 and 34 weeks of pregnancy. During this time, your bump is beautifully round and defined, but you’re still comfortable enough to move, pose, and enjoy the experience.
If you’re carrying multiples or showing earlier, sessions are often scheduled closer to 26–30 weeks.
Why Booking Early Matters
Even though your session happens in the third trimester, I recommend booking during your second trimester (around 16–20 weeks).
This ensures:
You’ll get your preferred date and season (especially if you want golden hour outdoor light or a studio slot).
You have time to plan wardrobe, location, and styling without rushing.
You can coordinate with your newborn session if you’re doing both (which many moms love!).
What If You’re Already Past 34 Weeks?
Don’t worry - it’s never too late to document this chapter. I’ve photographed stunning maternity sessions even days before delivery. Every pregnancy is different, and what matters most is capturing the love and anticipation before baby arrives.
A Season Worth Remembering
Pregnancy can feel long and fleeting all at once. You may not always feel your most glamorous, but I promise, the way you’ll look back at these images will be full of awe. These portraits aren’t just for you; they’re for your little one to see one day.
✨ Book your maternity session early, plan it intentionally, and let yourself be celebrated - because this chapter deserves it.
