Virginia Beach, Virginia Newborn Photographer | Newborn Session FAQ

I'm so excited you're considering LexLeigh Photography for your newborn session! Here are some of my frequently asked questions, answered!

1. When should I book my newborn session?

I recommend booking when you are in your second trimester! This will ensure I can get you in because I rarely have last minute availability. I only take a limited number of due dates for each month, so don't delay in booking! We will reserve your due date in my books, then once baby arrives, we will schedule the actual session date!

2. How old does my baby need to be?

My sweet spot is 21 days or younger. While it is still possible to get cute photos of older babies, it is much more difficult. The older they get, the more alert and awake they are. They start to get stronger and recoil back from movements making it harder to get them into the cute poses. Some start to hate being wrapped. This is another reason I say don't wait to book your newborn session at the last minute or after baby is already here. You won't regret getting your newborn's photos done, but you will regret if you miss the chance! The baby below was 8 weeks old and would only allow me to get cute little headshots like that!

3. Do I need to bring anything?

Just the baby, milk for the baby, diapers/wipes, and a paci if they use one (these can be a lifesaver during their session)! I have a fully stocked newborn studio in Virginia Beach full of top quality props, wraps, backdrops, outfits, lovies, and more! I provide everything we need to create these everlasting, beautiful memories! At this time, I do not allow outside props.

4. How long does a newborn session last?

This all depends on baby. Some babies need more time to settle, some need to be fed more often, some just want to party! Typically though, a newborn session will last anywhere between 2-3 hours. Don't let this deter you though! My studio is stocked for comfort. I have a bench located in the shooting room for you to watch, or you can opt to move to the waiting room where I have a couch perfect for naps! You can also enjoy a Hulu show on the TV. The waiting room is also equipped with a coffee bar, snack bar, and a fridge stocked with refreshments. A restroom is also conveniently located down the hall!

5. What happens if my baby won't settle and is fussy?

This is very rare. I am usually able to settle a baby very quickly. However, babies are just like us and sometimes they have bad days and that is perfectly okay. Don't stress, they pick up on that. I aim to have a mellow atmosphere in my studio to help baby relax. If baby is having an off day when they arrive for their session and won't settle after trying every trick in my book, we will reschedule to another day close (either the next day or a couple days later).

6. How do I prepare my baby for their session?

I have a newborn session prep guide that will be emailed to you after baby's arrival!

7. How much does a newborn session cost?

I have a few different options for newborn sessions such as fresh 48, lifestyle, and posed. The session fees for these can be found here. Products and digitals are sold separately during your reveal/ordering appointment. My average client investment is around $1,900. Inquire here for my full investment guide.

8. What is the reveal/ordering appointment?

After your session has taken place, we will schedule your reveal/ordering appointment for 5-7 days later. This is when you will come back to my studio to view your soft-proofed images for the first time in a customized slide show! You will also have the chance to see and touch some samples of the different products I offer. We will then create your collection of products to fit your needs/wants! After payment is complete, I will get started on final edits and order your products from my professional printing lab!

9. What types of products do you offer?

I offer high quality, heirloom products that are sure to last your family a lifetime! This includes wall art, like customizable framed prints, gallery walls, hanging canvases, and hanging wood trios. I also offer customizable luxe photo albums and folio boxes that are perfect for your coffee table or bookshelf! If products aren't something you're interested in, I also offer digital packages.
