When you’re planning your newborn session, one of the first decisions you’ll make is whether you’d prefer posed or lifestyle photography. Both are beautiful in their own way - but they capture very different emotions and aesthetics.
Here’s a simple guide to help you decide which feels most like you:

✨ Posed Newborn Photography
This style focuses on gently guided poses where your baby is carefully positioned on blankets or in props. Think: soft wraps, tiny headbands, baskets, and perfect sleepy poses.
Best for:
Parents who love fine-art, polished images
Those who want to highlight baby’s tiny details (fingers, toes, eyelashes)
Families who want that “studio-perfect” look
What to Expect: Your photographer will handle all posing and safety. Sessions usually last 2–3 hours to allow time for feeding and soothing. These are typically done within 7–14 days after birth, when baby is still very sleepy and flexible.

☁️ Lifestyle Newborn Photography
Lifestyle sessions are relaxed and natural - often done in your home or a cozy studio space. Instead of posing baby in props, we capture your family snuggling, feeding, or rocking your newborn - real, authentic moments of connection.
Best for:
Parents who want emotion and story over perfection
Families with older siblings or pets who want to be included
Homes with beautiful natural light
What to Expect: Sessions are shorter (about 60–90 minutes) and focus on candid interactions. Baby can be awake, asleep, or a little of both - because every moment is beautiful as it is.

💗 The Best of Both Worlds
Many of my clients love a hybrid approach - we begin with lifestyle moments in your home (or my studio) and then include a few softly posed shots for variety. It’s the perfect way to document both the artistry and the emotion of those early days.
✨ No matter which you choose, the most important thing is preserving this once-in-a-lifetime season with love and intention.
